The Coca Cola Chocolate Cake (my mom’s famous recipe or at least that’s what she used to tell me)

2 cups all purpose flour (I sometimes use unbleached white whole wheat flour)

2 cups granulated sugar

2 sticks butter (sometimes use lite butter since this recipe has so much butter)

1 cup root beer, coca cola or water yes, soda! it makes it yummy

¼ cup unsweetened cocoa

½ cup buttermilk

2 eggs

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp vanilla

Frosting

½ cup 1 stick butter (could use lite butter or margarine)

2 tbsp dark cocoa

¼ milk

31/2 cups unsifted powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla

In large mixing bowl, combine the flour and the sugar.

In a heavy saucepan, combine butter, coffee and cocoa. Stir and heat to boiling.

Pour boiling mixture over the flour and sugar in the bowl. And the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanila.

Mix well using a wooden spoon or high speed on mixer.

Pour into well buttered 17 ½ x 11 inch jelly roll pan.

Bake at 400 for 20 minutes or until cake tests done in the center.

While baking, prepare the frosting. In a saucepan, combine the butter, cocoa, and milk. Heat to boiling, stirring.

Mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla until frosting is smooth.

Pour warm frosting over the cake as soon as you take them out of the oven.

This cake is sinful and will be a big hit in your house!
